CCTV Footage Captures Fatal Push of 76-Year-Old Retired Teacher on NYC Subway Stairs
A surveillance video shows a man walking up behind Ross Falzone, a 76-year-old retired teacher, at the 18th Street station in Manhattan on May 7. Without warning, the attacker shoved Falzone down a concrete staircase. Falzone suffered a severe head injury and was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old former Broadway dancer Rhamell Burke, calmly walked away and later surrendered to police. Burke, who has multiple recent arrests, initially appeared in court on an unrelated assault charge before surveillance footage linked him to the fatal shove. He is now held without bail at Rikers Island.
