Three Senegal Fans Freed in Morocco After AFCON Final, 15 Still Detained
Morocco has released three Senegalese supporters after they completed three-month sentences for disturbances during the Africa Cup of Nations final in Rabat. They were escorted from Al Arjat 2 prison to a police station before being handed over to officials from the Senegalese embassy. One freed fan praised his hosts as he left custody. Their lawyer, Patrick Kabou, thanked diplomatic channels for their intervention and appealed for public support to help the men reintegrate. Meanwhile, 15 other Senegalese fans are still serving longer sentences, ranging from six months to a year, confirmed on appeal earlier this week. All were arrested after alleged violence against security personnel, property damage, pitch invasion and throwing objects following the January 18 final. A French supporter of Algerian descent was also released after completing a three-month term for throwing a water bottle during the match.
