World Bank Withdraws Latest Nigeria Development Update Days After Release

World Bank Withdraws Latest Nigeria Development Update Days After Release

The World Bank has removed its latest Nigeria Development Update just three days after publication. The report, titled Nigeria’s Tomorrow Must Start Today: The Case for Early Childhood Development, was released on April 7 but now yields a page not found error. The accompanying press statement remains available. It shows Nigeria’s economy grew by 4% in 2025 and inflation eased to 15.1% in February 2026, down from 26.3% a year earlier. The gains are credited to tighter monetary policy and improved food supply. The report calls for greater investment in early childhood development to boost living standards and job creation. It also highlights that over 110 in every 1,000 Nigerian children die before age five. No official reason has been provided for the report’s removal.

Any thoughts on why the World Bank would withdraw this Nigeria update just three days after publishing?

True, this sudden pull-back feels off. Something must have prompted them to yank it so quickly.

Did they specify what triggered the rapid retraction—data mistakes, policy backlash, or something else?

It's odd that a major institution would remove a development report without explanation, especially one focused on early childhood development.

I'm not convinced this withdrawal necessarily signals a cover-up; there might be technical issues or data errors behind the scenes.

Stakeholders should monitor the World Bank's site and contact local offices for clarification while we await an official statement.
