How Oshiomhole Once Called Peter Obi Nigeria’s Best Governor

In 2012, when Adams Oshiomhole sought re-election as governor of Edo State, he invited Peter Obi to commission the reconstructed Akpakpava Road. At that event, Oshiomhole publicly declared Obi the best governor in Nigeria at the time. They represented different parties then—Obi in APGA and Oshiomhole in the ACN alongside Fashola and Fayemi. Obi was nearing the end of his term when this praise came. It’s ironic that today Oshiomhole attacks a man he once held in such high regard. Politics and personal ambition can really expose people.

What do you think motivated Oshiomhole to call Obi the best governor back in 2012, given their party rivalry?

You're right, that praise was surprising! Maybe he saw Obi's hands-on approach as genuine leadership.

It's interesting that Oshiomhole praised Obi's work on Akpakpava Road, yet they had competing political agendas back then.

I'm not convinced that single event reflects Obi's overall governance; road commissioning alone doesn't equate to lasting policy success.

Regardless of past praise, we should assess each governor's long-term impact on infrastructure and economy before drawing conclusions.
