Africa Set to Power Global Supply Chains with Minerals and Local Pharma Production
Africa’s vast reserves of critical minerals and growing industrial capacity position it as a key driver of future global growth and trade, according to the CEO of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation. He highlighted cobalt, lithium, titanium and graphite deposits as vital for advanced technologies, and stressed the need for investments in energy, infrastructure, technology and logistics to unlock the continent’s full economic value. A major focus is boosting local production of active pharmaceutical ingredients, with Nigeria’s new API facility expected to produce 400 metric tonnes of essential medicines annually. Expanding local drug manufacturing under initiatives like the African Continental Free Trade Area could strengthen supply chains, reduce import dependence and make Africa a competitive health manufacturing hub.
