Advocate Says NBA Election Dispute Is Eroding Trust in Legal Profession
A human rights advocate has criticised the controversy surrounding the Nigerian Bar Association’s 2026 national election, saying it has damaged public confidence in the legal profession. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya (SAN) was declared president-elect after the July poll, but some members have challenged the outcome in court. They allege electronic voting failures, delayed OTPs, voter disenfranchisement and irregularities in the ballot design. The advocate said the NBA must resolve the dispute and reform its electoral process. He warned that the association could lose moral authority to challenge electoral misconduct ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
