Is Imo State’s Charter of Equity a Political Farce?

Is Imo State’s Charter of Equity a Political Farce?

I have examined the so-called Imo Charter of Equity, drafted by Chief Dan Nwanyanwu’s Strategy Committee and endorsed by the State Council of Elders. Critics like Paddy Obinna and Prof Ukachukwu Awuzie argue it favors the Owerri zone and served as a tool to secure Governor Uzodimma’s reelection. They point to allocation of future governorship slots and recent party primaries as proof of its contradictions. Both Owerri and Orlu zones feel marginalized, raising doubts about the Charter’s fairness and original purpose. I believe any genuine Charter of Equity must be holistic, transparent and serve all zones. As we approach 2027, decision-makers should revisit this document with clean hands and true commitment to justice so that Imo State can move forward united.

Do you think this Charter of Equity genuinely promotes balance across Imo's zones, or is it just a cover for Owerri favoritism?

Which specific clauses in the charter should we examine to see if every zone really benefits?

It seems odd that the council of elders quickly endorsed a draft that critics say rewards Owerri zone disproportionately.

I'm not convinced it's all political theater; local economic strengths around Owerri might justify some emphasis without it being a sleight.

To ensure fairness, the committee could tie equity clauses to measurable benchmarks in each zone before approving any allocations.
