Why I Feel Closer to God Outside Church

I know this may offend some people, but this is not an attack on Christianity, pastors, or anyone who loves church. It is simply my personal experience. I do not hate church; I have just never felt connected enough to commit to it. My parents tried, but I was often physically present and spiritually buffering. What puts me off is the routine and expectation to participate in everything. Stand up, sit down, clap, dance, greet your neighbour, and repeat. As an introvert, I prefer to observe quietly. I respect people who connect with God through worship and dancing, but I sometimes feel closer to God when I am alone, walking, thinking, or sitting in silence. I still believe church and mosque are important for many people. They offer community, guidance, and structure. I just do not need attendance to feel connected to God. Some people find God in a congregation; I have always found Him more easily in silence. Money might buy my attendance, but it cannot buy conviction.

What parts of being outside church make you feel closest to God: quiet reflection, nature, prayer, or something else?

I agree; faith can feel more honest away from the pressure of organised settings.

Your distinction matters: not feeling connected to church is different from attacking people who value it.

Personal spiritual connection is valid, but church can also offer community and accountability that private faith may not provide.

Perhaps keep exploring prayer and reflection while visiting different fellowships occasionally, without forcing yourself into a commitment.
