Modibbo Adama University Clinches N50m Top Prize at 2026 Nigerian Engineering Olympiad

Modibbo Adama University, Yola, emerged winner of the 2026 Nigerian Engineering Olympiad, taking home the N50 million top prize and the NCDMB Education Centre of Excellence Building. The grand finale in Lagos featured 12 innovation teams developing solutions across security, healthcare, agriculture and power. The University of Ibadan placed second with N30 million and N75 million worth of engineering equipment, while the University of Jos and UNN finished third and fourth. Organised by the Nigerian Society of Engineers with support from NCDMB, Renaissance Africa Energy, FIRST Exploration and Enactus Nigeria, the Olympiad bridges academia and industry to turn student ideas into marketable solutions. Speakers at the event called for more funding, incubation and patent backing for young innovators. Representatives urged sustained private and government partnerships to help student projects move from labs to the market.

Universities aiming for such prizes should focus on building sustainable project management skills alongside technical innovation to ensure long-term impact.
