SC Freiburg have rejected Olympique Marseille’s opening bid for goalkeeper Noah Atubolu, who is of Nigerian descent. The Bundesliga club reportedly considers the offer below its valuation. Freiburg are said to want between €15 million and €20 million for the 24-year-old, whose contract runs until June 2027. Marseille may return with an improved offer as they seek to move ahead of Bournemouth, Napoli and Juventus. Napoli are also reportedly monitoring Atubolu as a possible long-term option in goal, while his representatives have held talks in Italy. Freiburg remain open to a sale but are under no pressure to accept a reduced fee.

Do Marseille see Atubolu as a clear first-choice goalkeeper, or are they testing Freiburg's resolve with this opening bid?

Is there any indication Marseille are ready to improve their offer, or is this just an initial feeler?

Freiburg's €15m to €20m stance suggests they rate him highly, while Marseille's first offer was nowhere near enough.

Fair point, but an opening bid being rejected does not automatically mean the gap is impossible to close.

A rejected opening bid does not automatically mean Marseille are desperate; negotiations often begin well below the selling club's valuation.

If Marseille truly want him, they should improve the fee quickly and avoid a drawn-out chase before Freiburg can plan properly.
