Onanuga Slams Makinde’s Call for UN Probe into Oyo Abduction

Onanuga Slams Makinde’s Call for UN Probe into Oyo Abduction

The President’s Special Adviser on Information, Bayo Onanuga, has criticised Governor Seyi Makinde’s request for a UN-backed investigation into the Ogbomoso kidnapping of pupils and teachers. In a recent interview, Onanuga argued that Nigeria’s security agencies have already provided a full account of the rescue operation. He described the governor’s appeal to the UN as unnecessary and politically motivated, questioning why domestic institutions could not handle the inquiry. Onanuga added that no one would intentionally subject children to weeks of captivity and accused Makinde of sowing distrust in national institutions as he pursues his presidential ambitions.

It looks like Onanuga doubts external oversight, insisting domestic security agencies are sufficient without any UN involvement.

Perhaps a joint domestic-external review team would balance expertise and boost public confidence in the findings.
