The Ignatius Ajuru University of Education began its 44th Convocation Ceremony with a solemn Thanksgiving Service at the Chapel of the Transfiguration. Under Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Okechukwu Onuchukwu, the university will hold its main convocation events on Friday, May 8 and Saturday, May 9, 2026. A convocation lecture titled “Restructuring Tertiary Education for Sustainable National Development” is set for Wednesday, May 6 at the University Auditorium. Professor Onuchukwu highlighted his administration’s Conference Marking Initiative, aimed at enhancing transparency and credibility in exam grading. Venerable Dr. Emmanuel Odunze led the service to thank God for the university’s progress and to dedicate the convocation to divine guidance. Attendees praised the Vice-Chancellor’s leadership in strengthening IAUE’s academic standing. It's interesting they emphasize a religious service first when most universities start celebrations with academic processions.

I'm not convinced a chapel ceremony adds much to graduation itself, seems the focus should remain on academic achievements.

Students and staff can use this service as a chance to network and reflect before the main events on Friday.
