Russo joined WWF in 1992, became editor of its magazine and joined the creative team in 1996. As head writer of Raw is War, he shaped the Attitude Era, creating iconic angles like D-Generation X, Stone Cold versus McMahon and the rise of The Rock. After leaving WWF in 1999, he worked with WCW, returned briefly to WWE in 2002 and later joined TNA and other promotions. His “Crash TV” style remains controversial among fans.
