Itu Communities Celebrate Progress on Ikot Ekwere Road

Itu Communities Celebrate Progress on Ikot Ekwere Road — 1 of 4
1 / 4

Residents of Ikot Ekwere, Ikot Ebom and Mbak Itam III in Itu LGA are praising the ongoing Ikot Ekwere–Ikot Ebom–Mbak Itam road project. Sections of the route are already stone-based and motorable, while other stretches have been asphalted. Thick pre-cast drainage channels line key areas and work continues despite recent rains. At the palace of the nonagenarian village head, Eteidung Sunday Mathew Ekong, emotions ran high. “Governor Umo Eno has added more years to my life by making this road possible,” he said, noting that he had prayed for this project for decades. Other residents, including market traders, a local pastor and motorcycle operators, say the work is already boosting trade, improving transport and restoring hope. Project liaison officer Joseph Christopher Etim explained that challenging terrain requires specialised engineering, and he commended the contractor for maintaining high standards. Students and business owners say quality materials and steady progress are drawing people back and reviving property values. Many believe the new road will stimulate investment, enhance security and reconnect communities under the ARISE agenda.

Totally, it's impressive how motorists switch gears seamlessly between the rough and smooth sections.

It's notable that drainage channels are already lining the route, but those stone-based sections may still struggle under heavy traffic.

I dey worry say this half-done road no go last if proper maintenance no start before the next rainy season.

Local committees could schedule regular inspections of both asphalted and stone-based stretches to clear debris and protect drainage channels.
