When Gen Z Became Parents: Teachers Under Siege in Nigeria

A generation known for its boldness is now raising children without the respect or civility once expected of parents. As Gen Z mothers and fathers rise, the very professionals trained to guide young minds have become targets. Decades ago, even the most influential parents accepted school discipline. One commissioner insisted his son be caned when he misbehaved, earning lifelong respect. Another school owner expelled the deputy governor’s children rather than bow to pressure. Justice trumped status. Today, a Brains Minds Nursery teacher was beaten and stripped naked for correcting a pupil. The 22-year-old lost her life despite medical care. If schools cannot protect their staff, who will teach the next generations? It’s time to restore dignity to Nigerian teachers.
