Congo Opens Its Doors: Visa-Free Travel for All Africans from 2027
The Republic of Congo will grant visa-free access to all African nationals from January 1, 2027. President Denis Sassou Nguesso announced this at the African Development Bank annual meeting in Brazzaville. This decision follows similar moves in Benin, the Gambia, Seychelles, Rwanda, Kenya, Ghana and Togo. It aligns with the African Union’s Free Movement Protocol and the Continental Free Trade Area goal of seamless regional travel. Despite growing momentum, over 80% of intra-African journeys still require pre-arranged visas. Congo’s new policy marks a significant step toward greater continental integration.
