How Adeleke Defeated Oyebamiji in the 2026 Osun Governorship Election
Governor Ademola Adeleke retained the Osun governorship after polling 511,067 votes against APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji’s 444,815. The 66,252-vote margin was more than double Adeleke’s winning margin over Gboyega Oyetola in 2022. Adeleke won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11. Adeleke’s strongest margins came from Ede North and Ede South, while his win in Osogbo showed support beyond his traditional base. He also prevailed in several competitive LGAs across Ife, Ilesa, Iwo, Ila, Ifelodun and Ejigbo. Although Oyebamiji improved the APC’s vote total compared with 2022, the party could not overcome Adeleke’s margins in key areas. The analysis argues that incumbency, Adeleke’s political network and his campaign record helped him turn a larger electorate into a decisive statewide victory. The result also highlighted Adeleke’s ability to win under the Accord Party after previously winning on the PDP platform. It suggests that, in Osun, his personal support base remained stronger than party labels and federal political advantage.
