STF Arrests Nigerian for Posing as US, UK Nationals in Delhi Gift Scam
Authorities in Uttar Pradesh arrested Uchenwa, a Nigerian national living in South Delhi’s Khanpur. He created fake Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp profiles of US and UK women to befriend Indian users. He promised expensive gifts and foreign currency. He then impersonated customs and income tax officers to extort money. Claiming parcels were held at airports, he demanded fees for duties, taxes and other charges. Investigators seized three mobile phones and four SIM cards. The STF traced a Lucknow complaint where a victim lost nearly ₹68 lakh between 2025 and early 2026. Uchenwa confessed he turned to cyber fraud after his garment business failed and revealed he had spent four years in jail following a similar arrest in 2020.
