Makinde Says He Will Not Dictate to His Successor After Leaving Office

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde says he will not become a political godfather after leaving office in 2027. He said his successor should be free to develop and implement policies without interference from a former governor. Speaking at a Hijrah luncheon with members of the Muslim community in Ibadan, Makinde said leadership should be judged by service, impact and the institutions left behind, not by control over successors. He urged Oyo residents to assess 2027 aspirants by their competence, character and commitment to public service rather than ethnicity or religion. Makinde also pledged that his administration would continue projects and programmes aimed at development, peace and prosperity until the end of its tenure.
