First Fatal Crash Involving Tesla’s New Electric Semi-Truck Kills Nevada Couple
A married Nevada couple died when a new Tesla electric semi-truck collided with their vintage Volkswagen Beetle at an intersection on U.S. Highway 50 near Dayton, Nebraska. The crash happened on the morning of June 28 and is believed to be the first fatal accident involving Tesla’s latest semi model. According to local authorities, the 10-ton electric truck struck the Beetle before hitting a second vehicle. The couple, identified through an online fundraiser as Sergio and Jennifer Villanueva, were pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger from the other vehicle was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Early investigations suggest the Tesla driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel. The truck operator walked away uninjured, and investigators have not yet announced any charges. The semi, which has only been in regular production since earlier this year, is manufactured near the crash site at Tesla’s Nevada Gigafactory.
