Northern Youth Alliance Rejects El-Rufai’s Qur’an Oath Amid Corruption Probe

The Northern Youth Alliance for Security has condemned former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s public oath on the Holy Qur’an. They say the timing of his declaration is a tactic to mislead the public as he faces serious corruption charges. In a statement, Secretary-General Lawal Hamisu Jankasa noted that El-Rufai is accused of receiving N289.8 million in severance allowance instead of the rightful N20 million. An ad-hoc committee report also alleges ₦432 billion was misappropriated during his tenure. The ICPC has highlighted further allegations, including $797,900 in questionable deposits and a 2019 conspiracy to conceal $10,000. The Alliance urges anti-graft authorities to pursue the case without fear or favour and calls on citizens to demand full accountability. They reaffirm their commitment to good governance and insist that no oath can obscure mounting evidence. The group remains confident that justice will prevail for the people of Kaduna State.

Could this public Qur'an oath shift public opinion about El-Rufai's corruption charges, or is it purely performative?

Do you think taking this oath will truly alter public perception or it's just a political stunt?

I agree it's mostly a PR move, people have tuned out these gestures long ago.

It's telling that the timing of the oath announcement aligns exactly with renewed corruption allegations.

I'm not convinced a theological pledge holds any weight when legal investigations should speak louder than religious gestures.

Instead of debating oaths, we should demand transparency in the probe's process and insist on clear timelines for accountability.
