Justice Umar Rejects Sowore’s Request for Adjournment, Sets May 18 Hearing in DSS vs Meta Suit
Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday denied Tope Temokun’s plea for a one-month adjournment in the case filed by Omoyele Sowore against the Department of State Services and Meta Platforms. The judge said a speedy hearing was in the interest of justice and fixed May 18 for the matter to be heard. Sowore’s suit challenges what he calls unconstitutional censorship by the DSS and Meta of his social media posts, including comments referring to President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal.” Counsel for the DSS criticised delays by Meta’s legal team and urged an accelerated hearing. Justice Umar insisted he would set the timetable and directed all parties back on May 18.
