UK Visa and Citizenship Fees to Rise for Nigerians from April 2026

The UK Home Office has announced fee increases for most visas, residency applications and citizenship processes effective April 8, 2026. Nigerians seeking to visit, study, work or settle in the UK will see higher charges across nearly all categories. Key changes include a rise in the six-month visit visa from £127 to £135, student visas from £524 to £558, permanent residency (indefinite leave) from £3,029 to £3,226 and naturalisation fees from £1,605 to £1,709. The only reduction is the fee for registering a child as a British citizen, which drops from £1,214 to £1,000. The full schedule covers short-term and long-term visit visas, student and work routes, settlement applications, travel documents and nationality services. Applicants should review the updated fees carefully before submitting any new applications.

It's surprising these fee hikes apply to all major UK visa and residency applications, making future plans costlier without clear benefits.

While the fee hike hurts budgets, determined applicants will likely still apply given the UK's perceived opportunities.
