No More Impunity: IGP Disu Vows Dismissal and Prosecution for Rogue Officers

No More Impunity: IGP Disu Vows Dismissal and Prosecution for Rogue Officers

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has declared an end to recklessness in the Force. He warned that any officer who misuses a weapon or kills unlawfully will face instant dismissal and prosecution. Disu addressed the passing-out of 1,068 retrained constables at the Mobile Force Base in Uyo. He stressed that firearms must be used only as a last resort and praised the retraining of female officers in arms handling. The I-G also cautioned against extortion, drunkenness on duty, and other forms of misconduct. He urged new constables to carry their weapons with restraint and to treat citizens with respect. Earlier, the state Commissioner of Police announced the creation of a Violent Crime Response Unit. He highlighted its successes in safely evacuating explosives and rescuing kidnap victims.
