Man Gets Life Imprisonment for Raping 13-Year-Old in Akwa Ibom
Justice Ini-Abasi Udobong of the Akwa Ibom State High Court has sentenced Israel Emmanuel Jacob to life imprisonment for raping a 13-year-old girl. The court heard that the victim had gone to a nearby farm to fetch cassava stems when Jacob ambushed her. Prosecution counsel told the court that Jacob falsely accused the girl of stealing the stems and threatened to report her unless she agreed to have sexual intercourse. When she refused, he forcefully pulled her, tore her underwear and repeatedly raped her before fleeing the scene. The judge ruled that the prosecution proved the case beyond reasonable doubt and imposed a life sentence, underscoring the seriousness with which the court treats sexual offences against minors.
