FG Launches Committee to Fast-Track Port-Rail Links and Ease Cargo Congestion

FG Launches Committee to Fast-Track Port-Rail Links and Ease Cargo Congestion

At the recent quarterly meeting of the Nigerian Ports Consultative Council, Dr. Kayode Opeifa announced a new committee, constituted by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, to strengthen port-rail connectivity nationwide. Key projects include the imminent completion of the Kaduna-Kano corridor, extensions from Apapa to Tincan Island port, a link from Warri to Itakpe, and narrow-gauge connections to Port Harcourt and Baro Port. Plans for a Lekki Deep Sea Port rail line through Ijebu-Ode to join the Lagos-Ibadan route were also unveiled. Dr. Opeifa stressed that seamless rail integration is critical to reducing cargo congestion, lowering logistics costs, and boosting Nigeria’s economic growth. He urged stakeholders, especially truckers, to collaborate and ensure efficient cargo evacuation from ports to inland destinations.
