Army Chief Urges Pan-African Military Unity to Combat Terrorism

Army Chief Urges Pan-African Military Unity to Combat Terrorism

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has urged stronger collaboration among African armies to tackle terrorism, insurgency and other transnational threats. Speaking at the Third African Land Forces Forum alongside the Nigerian Army Day Celebration in Port Harcourt, he said the meeting of army chiefs and defence leaders from 17 countries highlights a shared commitment to collective security and lasting peace. Shaibu praised the Nigerian Army’s evolution since 1863 and described the forum as a platform for dialogue, experience-sharing and interoperability. He noted Nigeria’s counter-terrorism successes and the impact of the Multinational Joint Task Force in the Lake Chad Basin. He also highlighted exhibitions of defence technologies and innovations designed to foster strategic partnerships. Delegates were urged to maximise discussions for practical outcomes that will strengthen Africa’s security.
