Whitecloud Academy and NBTE Launch AR Welding Graduates for Nigeria’s Steel Revival
The National Board for Technical Education has approved an Augmented Reality welding programme for polytechnics and celebrated the first set of graduates at Whitecloud TVET Academy. The scheme aims to fill critical skill gaps hampering Nigeria’s iron and steel sector, which currently relies on imported welders for major projects. Combining soldamatic simulation with hands-on workshop practice, the training package cuts costs, reduces material waste and boosts trainee confidence. Graduates benefit from real-time digital overlays and performance feedback that accelerate learning without safety risks. Industry leaders say welding underpins oil and gas infrastructure, pipelines, construction and manufacturing. The programme’s backers believe these skilled welders will propel local content, tackle unemployment and support Nigeria’s drive for industrial growth.
