Samir Nasri Questioned in French Money Laundering Probe, Released Without Charge

Samir Nasri Questioned in French Money Laundering Probe, Released Without Charge — 1 of 5
1 / 5

Former Arsenal and Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri was held by French police for around 10 hours this week. He was questioned over suspected money laundering linked to an organized drug trafficking network before being released the same evening without charge. Investigators from the Financial Investigation and Research Brigade are examining Nasri’s past role as a shareholder in XS nightclub near Paris. Authorities suspect the venue may have been used to launder funds for convicted trafficker Hakim Berrebouh, known as “Le Marcassin,” and his associate. Nasri has denied any wrongdoing. The judicial investigation remains open, as French law allows custody for questioning without a formal charge at this stage. After winning Premier League titles with Arsenal and Manchester City, Nasri retired and now works as a television pundit in France.

What do you make of Nasri's 10-hour detention followed by a quick release without charge? Does this raise doubts about the investigation?

That extended detention then quick release does look odd; it certainly throws doubt on how solid the inquiry was.

Holding someone for nearly half a day over suspected money laundering linked to drug trafficking seems heavy, especially when no formal charges were filed afterward.

Maybe police were simply following standard money laundering checks, not targeting Nasri. Lengthy questioning doesn't always imply guilt without clear evidence.

Let's wait for official statements from the French probe before jumping to conclusions, then assess any evidence once it becomes public.
