UITH Doctors Suspend Services After Colleague Assaulted by Grieving Mother
Doctors at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital in Kwara State have suspended all non-emergency services after a colleague was allegedly attacked by a mother who lost her child in the Pediatrics Department. The incident occurred last Wednesday when the grieving mother reportedly became emotional and assaulted the doctor involved in her child’s care. On Thursday, many patients who arrived for appointments were unable to receive treatment as doctors stayed away from work in protest. Members of the Association of Resident Doctors held a peaceful demonstration on the hospital premises. They condemned the attack and appealed to the public to respect and protect medical personnel while seeking care. Authorities have arrested the woman and launched an investigation. The assaulted doctor is receiving treatment, and consultants will continue attending to critical cases during the work stoppage.
