Why Nigeria’s Brain Drain and Japa Wave Won’t End Anytime Soon

Why Nigeria’s Brain Drain and Japa Wave Won’t End Anytime Soon

I’ve seen our best professionals leave in droves while government efforts focus on speeches and seminars instead of rooting out core problems. First, stay-back campaigns ring hollow when public officials embezzle development funds. Young Nigerians won’t build on nothing while leaders line their pockets. Second, doctors, engineers, and educators earn peanuts. Without competitive pay, many will seek better salaries and living conditions abroad. Third, insecurity and a broken education system push families to relocate for safety and quality schooling. Until we invest in human capital and protect citizens, the Japa wave will persist.
