Gunmen Kill 85-Year-Old Edo Community Leader in Benin City

An 85-year-old community leader, Reuben Owie, has been shot dead by suspected gunmen at his home in Iguosa, off Okhunhun Road in Benin City, Edo State. Police said two unidentified assailants attacked Owie, the secretary of Iyowa Community, at about 8:15 p.m. on August 2. One of the attackers allegedly shot him in the head. Officers visited the scene and moved his body to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. Edo Police said investigations are ongoing and efforts are being intensified to identify and arrest the suspects.
