Police in Charlotte have charged 24-year-old Thomaz Hamilton with first-degree rape and murder of his 19-year-old girlfriend. Her body was discovered bound with a tow strap and bearing multiple fractures and stab wounds. An autopsy concluded she endured months of torture and would not have been able to consent to sex. Officers found a bloodstained knife wrapped in cellophane, a baseball bat, a sword and a blood-soaked mattress in the apartment. Hamilton initially claimed she suffered a heart attack during consensual sex.
