Abia Governor Greenlights Feasibility Study for Azumini-Obeaku Seaport Corridor

Abia Governor Greenlights Feasibility Study for Azumini-Obeaku Seaport Corridor

Governor Alex Otti has approved the immediate start of a feasibility study for the proposed Azumini-Obeaku Seaport and Inland Waterways Corridor. He gave the go-ahead during a meeting with China Harbour Engineering officials in Nvosi, Isialangwa South. Otti urged the company to speed up the study timeline and directed state agencies to begin securing federal approvals. He noted that the site sits about 19 nautical miles from the high sea and may require dredging work. Nicholas Liu, the company’s Marketing Manager, expressed strong interest in partnering with the Abia government. He highlighted China Harbour’s role in projects like the Lekki Deep Sea Port and stressed the need for clear funding plans and a phased development approach. The governor also recommended an on-site inspection before the study kicks off. He remains optimistic that, if viable, the project will drive economic growth in the region.
