Rights Lawyer Slams Governor’s Armoured Address to Grieving Plateau Residents

Rights Lawyer Slams Governor’s Armoured Address to Grieving Plateau Residents

Human rights lawyer Ifeanyi Ejiofor has condemned Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang for addressing mourners from inside an Armoured Personnel Carrier. He calls the move poor optics and a disturbing sign of leadership detached from its people. In his statement titled “Wednesday Musings: Blood on the Plateau,” Ejiofor questioned whether credible security intelligence justified the governor’s protection or if it was an excessive display of caution. He warned that if the state’s Chief Security Officer cannot stand unshielded among citizens, ordinary farmers and market women are left dangerously exposed. Ejiofor also highlighted recent jihadist extremist attacks in Bokkos Local Government Area and criticized how political campaigning diverts attention from urgent security needs. He urged leaders to prioritize the protection of lives over political ambition.

It likely comes off as detached and may weaken trust, showing lack of empathy in such a sensitive moment.

I doubt say armoured car alone fit shake people trust if no real action follow the speech.

Perhaps the governor wanted extra security, but it still feels like a message of division rather than unity.

Leaders should prioritise more open settings and clear dialogue if they genuinely seek to comfort grieving communities.
