Trump Promises ‘Good and Proper’ Iran Deal, Slams Obama-Era Agreement

US President Donald Trump said any pact he reaches with Iran will be ‘‘good and proper,’’ taking aim at the 2015 agreement under former President Obama. Reports indicate Washington and Tehran may agree to lift the US naval blockade on Iranian ports while Iran removes its stockpiles of highly enriched uranium and reopens the Strait of Hormuz. Disruptions in the strait have pushed US pump prices from under $3 to above $4.50 per gallon. Some lawmakers, including Senator Thom Tillis, warn that a deal not ratified by Congress is ‘‘doomed to fail.’’ Senator Rand Paul, however, urged critics to give the administration room to negotiate an ‘‘America First’’ solution.
