INEC Halts Recognition of David Mark-Led ADC Faction Amid Court Dispute
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will no longer accept correspondence from either the David Mark-led faction or the Rafiu Bala group of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following a Court of Appeal ruling on March 12, 2026. A statement by Mohammed Kudu, INEC’s Chairman of Information and Voter Education, said the commission will not engage with or monitor any meetings, congresses, or conventions of the two competing groups until the Federal High Court resolves the leadership dispute. INEC also confirmed plans to remove Senator David Mark’s name from its official portal. This decision follows rival legal notices from two law firms: one cautioning against recognising Bala as acting chairman, and the other demanding enforcement of the appeal court’s judgment in favour of the Mark-led committee. Further developments will be announced when the Federal High Court rules on the matter.
