Pakistan PM Urges Trump to Delay Iran Deadline, Calls for Strait Reopening

In a letter to President Trump, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has asked for a two-week extension to the deadline set for Iran. He proposes the same truce period to allow diplomacy to run its course. He also urges Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as a goodwill gesture during this period. He calls on all parties to observe a ceasefire and seeks long-term peace and stability in the region. The request follows a warning from President Trump to target Iranian infrastructure if the waterway remains closed. Sharif describes talks to end the conflict as “progressing steadily.”

A mere two-week extension feels too short to address underlying tensions and avoid clashes in the Strait.

Not sure Pakistan's call for diplomacy alone will be enough to pressure Iran or keep shipping lanes open.

Regional leaders could set up a joint monitoring team during the truce to verify compliance and build mutual trust.
