Experienced Skydiver Dies in Charity Jump After Parachute Malfunction

Experienced Skydiver Dies in Charity Jump After Parachute Malfunction — 1 of 2
1 / 2

An experienced skydiver died at Headcorn Aerodrome in Kent on Easter Monday when his parachute failed to open during a charity jump. Eyewitness Lucy Barrett, 53, said she and four others saw a person falling without a deployed chute. They later learned the jumper was a man with around ten years of skydiving experience. The group had been raising funds for a brain tumour charity in memory of Lucy’s sister. Go Skydive confirmed the incident and expressed gratitude to emergency services and on-site teams for their swift response. A British Skydiving Board of Inquiry will investigate the accident and submit its findings to the coroner, the police, the Civil Aviation Authority and other relevant authorities.

Good point! It'd be great to hear about the gear checks and protocols they had for that jump.

It's striking that an experienced skydiver still faced a chute malfunction, despite all the training and equipment checks.

I no sure say dem properly check the gear before launch; even charity events must stick to strict inspection routines.

Charity organisers should enforce mandatory gear inspections and backup chute protocols to reduce risks during all future jumps.
