Awujale Succession: Fusengbuwa Ruling House Removes Three Leaders Over Alleged Irregularities

The Fusengbuwa Ruling House in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, has removed its chairman, Abdulateef Owoyemi; vice-chairman, Prof. Fassy Yusuf; and deputy chairman, Adeodokun Ajidagba, over alleged irregularities in the process to select the next Awujale of Ijebuland. The decision followed the adoption of a 25-page report by a nine-member fact-finding committee. The committee alleged financial inducement, document manipulation, poor screening and failure to follow the Awujale Declaration in classifying eligible candidates. It said the leadership should step aside to restore peace and credibility to the process. Yusuf and Owoyemi rejected the allegations and questioned the legitimacy of the panel, with Yusuf threatening legal action over alleged defamation. The ruling house says it will inform the Ogun State Government and appoint new leaders. The Awujale stool has been vacant since Oba Sikiru Adetona died in July 2025, while the state government has twice suspended the selection process over petitions and procedural concerns.
