Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare has joined Ajax on a season-long loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, with an option for the Dutch club to make the move permanent for about €22 million. The 25-year-old scored six goals in 38 appearances for Wolves but struggled for regular minutes late last season. After impressing at Genk, he will hope the move to Amsterdam revives his form. Arokodare said Ajax legend Kanu Nwankwo, fondly called Papilo, is a major inspiration. Seeing Kanu’s photographs at Ajax’s training ground reminded him of the Nigerian icon’s legacy and strengthened his ambition to make his own mark at the club. He will wear the number 99 shirt for Ajax in the 2026/27 season.

A season-long loan gives Ajax time to assess him properly, while Arokodare can focus on earning consistent starts before any permanent decision.
