Osun Labour Threatens Indefinite Picketing of UBA Over Local Government Funds

Organised Labour in Osun State has issued a final ultimatum to United Bank for Africa (UBA). They warn of indefinite picketing across all UBA branches if the bank fails to comply with court orders on local government accounts. The unions say UBA ignored a DSS-facilitated agreement and continued to recognize court-sacked APC chairmen and councillors. They point to a June 15, 2026 Federal High Court ruling that invalidated tenure extensions and removed those officials’ authority over 30 local councils. They demand an immediate freeze on all transactions by the affected signatories, restoration of funds to constitutionally recognized administrations, and secure handling of allocations meant for grassroots development, salaries, allowances, and pensions. Labour calls on workers, pensioners, ministries, departments, and agencies to move their accounts to other banks until UBA honors the court judgment.

Do you think UBA will finally release those local government funds after the threat of indefinite picketing?

What timeline would you find reasonable for UBA to release those local government funds?

This ultimatum seems driven by repeated delays. Labour unions say UBA ignored a DSS-facilitated agreement before resorting to indefinite picketing.

Is picketing really the best tactic when court orders already exist? Perhaps legal enforcement could move faster than protests.

Local councils should document every payment issue and seek interim injunctions. That legal trail can pressure both the bank and DSS to act.
