Standing Before the Great White Throne: The Judgment of the Dead (Revelation 20:11–15)

In this vision, John sees a great white throne with God seated upon it. Heaven and earth flee from His presence, and there is no place for them. The dead—both great and small—stand before the throne. Books are opened, including the book of life. Each person is judged by their deeds recorded in these books. Death and Hades are thrown into the lake of fire, symbolizing the second death. Anyone whose name is not found in the book of life is cast into that lake.

The description implies heaven and earth fleeing from God's presence, but is that symbolic or literal? It feels open to interpretation.

I can see why it feels ambiguous—are you leaning toward seeing it as literal cosmic collapse or symbolic divine separation?

The passage suggests immediate judgment, yet it doesn't explain mercy or grace beyond the book of life criteria, which seems incomplete.

Considering this vision, focusing on personal reflection and daily choices may help align your life with the idea of the book of life.
