Bangkok Police Arrest Nigerian Kingpin and Four Others in Cocaine Ring Bust

Bangkok Police Arrest Nigerian Kingpin and Four Others in Cocaine Ring Bust

Bangkok police have dismantled a cocaine network led by Nigerian national Nwaiwu Ifeanyi Placid. He was arrested near Silom Soi 1 on Saturday night after officers tracked his movements. They seized 27 grams of cocaine at the scene. Three other suspects were detained, including Swiss national Thomas Giubibini and Thai nationals Thanayot Asawamethi, 35, and Nattawat Wangkitjinda, 34. Police seized about 30 grams of cocaine along with a car, 1.5 million baht in cash, 15,000 baht in other currency and jewellery valued at 400,000 baht. Officials said the bust followed an October operation when undercover officers posed as construction workers. That raid led to the arrest of nine Nigerians in the Nana area and uncovered a second kingpin known as “Patrick,” a Nigerian who lived in Thailand for 17 years under a sham marriage. Police arrested “Patrick” while he was delivering drugs to associates. He resisted arrest and later confessed. All suspects remain in custody as the investigation continues.

True talk, improving border checks and stronger intelligence collaboration could really limit these international drug kingpins.

It's surprising how a small amount of cocaine led police directly to the alleged kingpin's location in central Silom.

I'm not convinced that seizing just 27 grams really disrupts the network's operations at any meaningful level.
