86-Year-Old French Woman Compares Her 17-Day ICE Detention to Nazi Times

An 86-year-old pensioner from France spent 17 days in U.S. immigration detention after ICE agents arrested her without warning at her Alabama home. She was held in crowded cells, forced to change into a dirty jumpsuit and shackled by the feet. Transferred over 700 km to a fortress-like facility in Louisiana, she endured sleepless nights, foul conditions and denied medical care. She credits her faith and fellow detainees’ solidarity for helping her survive. Back in France, she speaks out against what she calls racist arrests and vows to be a voice for other detainees. She hopes her story will lead to the closure of such detention centers and secure her green card so she can visit her late husband’s grave.

True talk, detaining an elderly pensioner without notice just shows how overdue reform is.

I share your concern, but calling this Nazi-like might distract from fixing real flaws in detention procedures.

It sounds harsh, but can we really equate 17 days in detention with decades of genocide?

Perhaps the focus should shift toward improving legal representation and regular health checks for elderly detainees during transfer.
