Senator Nwoko Urges Igbo Leaders to Unite Behind Anioma State Creation

Senator Nwoko Urges Igbo Leaders to Unite Behind Anioma State Creation

Senator Ned Nwoko has appealed to Igbo political leaders in the South East to consolidate support for Anioma as the zone’s sixth state. In a statement from Abuja, he urged all proponents of state-creation movements to set aside individual agitations and back this historic opportunity. He praised Senate President Akpabio’s recent endorsement and noted President Tinubu’s administration remains committed to Anioma State. Nwoko highlighted the economic benefits of a new state, including maritime access for the Igbo hinterland, improved trade routes, and growth in shipping, agro-processing, and oil services. Warning that multiple competing proposals could weaken the region, he called for a unified front to strengthen Igbo bargaining power, reinforce national cohesion, and change perceptions of being landlocked or marginalised. He described Anioma as a cause that transcends party lines and generations.
