Modrić Signals Desire to Extend AC Milan Stay

Luka Modrić says he’s ready to remain at AC Milan beyond this season. The Croatian midfielder, who joined the Rossoneri from Real Madrid in 2025, praised Milan’s history and shared his love for the city. With his current deal running until June 2026 and an extension option in place, Modrić plans to decide soon on a new contract or retirement. He told a sports outlet that his focus is on Milan’s final Serie A match against Cagliari. Modrić was also named in Croatia’s 26-man squad for the 2026 World Cup. Despite recovering from a cheekbone fracture, he aims to lead his country in a group featuring England, Panama and Ghana. “We’ll give it our all and make our fans proud,” he said.

His praise for Milan's history sounds nice, but his recent performances haven't always lived up to that romantic narrative.

I'm not convinced he should commit long term until we see how he adapts to Serie A next season.

Milan should evaluate his fitness and consistency before offering a new deal, but keep conversation channels open for negotiation.
