Oba Ewuare II Pronounces Spiritual Curse on Kidnappers and Armed Robbers

Oba Ewuare II Pronounces Spiritual Curse on Kidnappers and Armed Robbers — 1 of 3
1 / 3

The Oba of Benin, Omo n’Oba n’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Ewuare II, has placed a spiritual curse on kidnappers, armed robbers, and anyone planning evil in his kingdom and across Edo State. He invoked the curse through priests and priestesses of all shrines, traditional physicians, the Iwebo society, and Aiyelala. The ceremony began with a procession from the palace and peaked at its main entrance in Benin City. Participants dressed in ceremonial regalia carried sacred objects. They poured libations, performed propitiatory rites, and called on ancestral spirits to witness against those responsible for violence or collaborating with criminals.

It's notable that the Oba chose religious rituals over conventional law enforcement to address kidnappers and armed robbers.

Spiritual curses alone might not deter criminals who rely on guns, not gods, to carry out their plans.
