PDP Unseals Secretariat as Wike-Backed Faction Convenes First NEC Meeting in Abuja

PDP Unseals Secretariat as Wike-Backed Faction Convenes First NEC Meeting in Abuja

The Peoples Democratic Party will today convene its National Executive Committee meeting at its Abuja headquarters for the first time since the secretariat was unsealed. Reports recall that the party’s headquarters was sealed last November after clashes between the Turaki-led National Working Committee and the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led caretaker committee. An Appeal Court judgment in March invalidated the Ibadan convention that produced the Turaki leadership, paving the way for the Abuja convention organized by the Wike-backed group. Key attendees are expected to include FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, former Senate President Bukola Saraki and former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu as the Mohammed-led faction seeks to solidify its leadership claims.

Reopening the Abuja headquarters doesn't automatically heal old rifts; the real test will be unity beyond mere symbolism.

Party leaders should outline clear agendas and conflict resolution steps during the NEC session to prevent future disruptions.
