Court Threatens Contempt for Ignoring Enugu Hospital Reinstatement Order
The National Industrial Court in Abuja has issued a contempt notice against the Minister of State for Health and the Medical Director of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu. This follows a December 2025 judgment in favour of Prof. Monday Igwe, which voided his termination as Medical Director, nullified Dr. Unaogu Ngozichukwu Nneka’s appointment, and ordered his immediate reinstatement with all back pay. As of mid-April 2026, Prof. Igwe has not been reinstated and Dr. Unaogu remains in office. The court warned that failure to comply could lead to contempt proceedings, including possible imprisonment. The case highlights ongoing challenges when public bodies neglect binding judicial orders.
